Paranormal U Cover Art

Another second year podcast. One thing I discovered while teaching is that sometimes, a lot of times actually, students just need a little push. It’s weird because I find students open to trying new things but at the same time very hesitant. It’s almost like they need someone to blame things on.. Like if the podcast is horrible and they get criticized for it they can say “Mr. Stanley made me do it”. At least that’s what I think. I also know it’s difficult to step out of their comfort zone. But I also look at and think, well students talk all the time anyway why not sit them in front of the mic. Which is the case of how Paranormal U came about.

One of the students on the cast talks a lot and always has a story to tell about everything, especially paranormal things. So I thought it’s time for said student to step up to the mic. I also thought I’m going to have said student host the cast with the student in class that doesn’t talk at all. The other thing I decided to do was host it with them because of their hesitancy. I did find that a lot with students that wanted to do a podcast but were new to podcasting. I would set them up with a student, or myself, that was used to hosting a podcast to take off some of the stress and after a few episodes myself or the assigned student would step out of the show and our baby birds would fly on their own. Although this wasn’t the case with Paranormal U because I’m interested in that stuff too, which is where the idea for the cover art came from. I'm also a huge fan of the X-Files and totally stole their idea and am not afraid to say it. I did recreate everything in Illustrator though and then presented it to the class for a thumbs up or down, and thankfully it received a thumb in the up direction.

Sidenote: The quiet student talked more on the podcast episodes than he has the rest of the year combined.
